JEE Main Counselling 2023: Schedule, Procedure, Dates & Documents Required

JEE Main is a national-level exam conducted by the NTA or the National Testing Agency. JEE Main and JEE advanced are the two main tests required to get admission into the engineering and architecture courses across NITs, IITs, and other participating institutes. 

Students who reach the cutoff marks are liable to appear for the JEE Main counselling sessions. This article will provide details regarding the JEE Main counselling dates, schedule and other crucial information regarding the JEE Main exam.

JEE Main 2023 Counselling

The counselling processes will be started after the declaration of JEE Main 2023 Result. The counselling process will be organized through an online mode. Counselling for vacant seats is regulated by CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board). It will be organized in various rounds. JEE Main Counselling process comprises of various steps like registration, choice filling, seat allotment, seat acceptance & reporting to the allotted college.

JEE Main 2023 Counselling Process

  • Candidates scoring above the JEE Main 2023 cutoff score will be eligible for JEE Main 2023 counselling process to secure seats in the top colleges like NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
  • JEE Main 2023 qualified candidates must register themselves on the JoSAA website and select their preferred college and course based on their ranks.
  • Allocation of seats will be done online and is based on the candidate’s rank, category, availability of seats, etc.
  • After the seat allocation is done, the applicants will have to report to their respective allotted institutes for document verification, fee payment, and further process.

Steps involved in JEE Mains counselling and JoSAA Counselling are given below:

Step 1: Online Registration

  • Candidates need to register themselves on the official website of JoSAA.
  • Candidates can log in using their JEE Main 2023 Application No., Password, and Security Pin.
  • Candidates are then required to fill in all the asked information regarding counselling and click on Submit
  • Reverify all the furnished details and click on the “Confirm Registration” button

Step 2: Online Choice Filling and Locking

  • Candidates are then required to select their choices of college and its programs.
  • The choices filled can be selected from the list provided.
  • Candidates can change/edit/delete their filled choices.
  • Candidates should lock the choices before the last date.
  • Choice Locking is done after each round of JEE Main 2023 Counselling is concluded.

Step 3: JoSAA 2023 Seat Allotment

Seat Allotment through JoSAA depends on the following factors for possible seat allotment according to candidates’ choices:

  • Candidate’s Category (Gen., OBC-NCL, SC, etc.)
  • All India Ranking (AIR) in JEE Main 2023 rank list(s)
  • According to the priority order of choices selected by the candidates for academic programs and institutes.
  • Availability of seats under different seat quotas ( if the candidate is eligible).

Step 4: Seat Acceptance Fee and Document Verification

  • After successful seat allotment, for confirmation of the seat, candidates need to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee for the allotted seats through Net Banking/e-Challan.
  • All the related documents will be verified at the reporting centre.
  • After verification of the documents and payment of the fee, a provisional admission letter will be issued to the candidate.

The JEE Mains Counselling Fees can be paid through SBI Net Banking/ e-Challan. The seat acceptance fee is INR 35,000 for all the candidates. On the contrary, candidates belonging to SC / ST / PwD category will have to pay INR 15,000 as a seat acceptance fee.

Step 5: Reporting to the Allotted College

The final step in JEE Main 2023 Counselling procedure is reporting to the assigned institutes with original certificates and documents on the allotted date and time slot.

Documents Required for Verification after JEE Main Seat Allotment 2023

Candidates after accepting the allotted seats have to visit the reporting centres set up by JoSAA for verification of documents. At the time of reporting, candidates have to carry all the below-mentioned documents along with them

  • JEE Main seat allotment letter issued by JoSAA.
  • Three passport-size photographs (have to be the same as uploaded during registration).
  • A government-issued photo identity card.
  • Proof of fee payment for JEE Main seat acceptance.
  • Date of birth proof.
  • JEE Main Admit Card 2023.
  • Class 12 Mark sheet.
  • JEE Main 2023 Score Card.
  • Category certificate (if applicable).
